Edge and Christian's Greatest Feuds

The Tag Team’s Rivalries with the Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz and BOD

Oct 8, 2009 Jillian Bost

Edge and Christian were seven time tag team champions in their heyday of 1999-2001 in WWE. They feuded with The Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz and The Undertaker and Kane.

Edge and Christian were so prolific as tag team wrestlers and champions that they faced each tag team in the World Wrestling Federation, but they had particularly long-standing feuds with The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz, often in three-way matches that put all tag teams on the map. While the E&C Dynasty often excelled in whatever match they were in, their feuds with the above teams, as well as others like Kane and Undertaker.

Edge and Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz

But before the Dudley Boyz arrived, Edge and Christian had their hands full with Matt and Jeff Hardy. Their feud revolved around the Terri Invitational Tournament, in which the winners of a five-match tournament would win $100,000 and the managerial services of Terri Runnels. Although Edge and Christian lost, they put on a series of great matches with the Hardy Boyz, the last one being a ladder match which made both teams famous.

Although the Canadian duo had usually been babyfaces during their tenure in the World Wrestling Federation, after Wrestlemania 2000 (XVI), they began to change. After the phenomenal match between themselves, the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian turned heel, and began to antagonize Matt and Jeff constantly.

They made fun of the Hardys’ teenage home movies and brought out little people versions of the Hardys to mock, as well as the “Hardys of the Future”. They won the Tag Team Championship from the Hardys a total of two times, but their feuds with them were not always about titles. They were more often about vengeance.

Edge and Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz

Inextricably linked to the E&C vs. Hardys feud were the Dudleys. So often these three teams wrestled together that four-man tag matches seemed novel. Their first match together was at Wrestlemania 2000 (XVI), in a Triangle Ladder Match that of course included tables (and the Hardys, as noted). When Team E&C won this match, the Dudleys were the ones they took the titles from. They ended up taking the titles from the Dudley Boyz twice.

They also antagonized the Dudley Boyz by bringing out little people versions of them, complete with a Play-Skool table through which they presumably wanted to slam people. They also brought out the Dudley “parents” to find out why Bubba and D-Von were so stupid. This ended with the tables being turned, so to speak, on the poor actors, as Bubba and D-Von came rushing out to put them through their trademark wooden tables.

Three-Way Tag Team Matches

What really solidified Edge and Christian’s dominance over the World Wrestling Federation tag team division, however, was not just their amusing antics but rather their title wins and athletic abilities. E&C faced the Hardys and the Dudleys in two TLC Matches: Tables, Ladders and Chairs. These matches changed the face of wrestling forever, particularly tag team wrestling with their high risk moves and innovative uses of furniture. Edge and Christian won both TLC matches.

Edge and Christian vs. The Brothers of Destruction Kane and Undertaker

The duo also had a short but memorable stint with the Brothers of Destruction, the formidable team of Kane and Undertaker. The BOD ended their last title reign on April 19 2001, opening the crack that became a canyon between the once inseparable Edge and Christian. E&C had their last match as a tag team against Undertaker and Kane in an attempt to get their tag team titles back, but they failed.

Edge and Christian: Tag Team Innovators

Although Edge and Christian mostly fought the Hardy Boyz and Dudley Boyz, their involvement in stipulation matches such as the Triangle Ladder Match and Tables Ladders and Chairs made them unique. Along with their opponents they made tag team wrestling important again. And although they have both teamed with several other men such as Lance Storm and Randy Orton since their heyday, they will always be remembered best as Edge & Christian, the E&C Dynasty.
