Jeff Hardy Taking Hiatus After Summerslam?

Will the World Champion Take Leave of Absence After the Summer PPV?

After months of twists and turns, internet sites have been recently reporting that Jeff Hardy does indeed intend to take leave after the Summerslam pay-per-view later thi

The story has been running riot for months on the internet, will Jeff Hardy stay, or will he go? According to recent reports by prowrestlingscoops.com, it seems that the latter might be the eventuality to occur. Jeff has had several nagging injuries as of late, and has been reportedly pushing for time off. His contract is believed to have come to an end in the last few months and thus he is currently supposed to be working an ‘informal’ extension. However, this has not been 100% confirmed.

Replacement for Jeff Hardy

To make the situation all the more tricky, Jeff Hardy is currently Smackdown’s World Heavyweight Champion. Holding the brand’s top title would basically make him the face of the brand and one of the face of the company. Hardy’s popularity is also hardly hidden. The riotous reception the superstar receives on entering the arena speaks for itself. It is undoubtedly clear that the loss of such a superstar would be bad for business.

It is interesting to note that the WWE have brought back Matt Hardy, Jeff’s real life brother to the brand as a face, so soon after the two engaged in a bitter rivalry around the period of Wrestlemania, which turned the older brother into a hated heel in the eyes of the audience. Before this Matt held popularity close to that of Jeff’s and the turn was rather shocking to some. However, it seems that, as far as television has played out, this idea has run its course. It is no secret that the Smackdown brand lacks top baby faces and the loss of Jeff is going to damage the brand further. With John Morrison still on the rise after such a long period as a heel and the Undertaker still in an uncertain condition for return and Rey Mysterio taking the mid-card position, there is a seeming void position for top face.

The World Heavyweight Title

According to sources at prowrestlingscoops.com, Jeff is working with injuries that the doctor has recommended to have been sidelining. Of course, with the face division of the brand in the weak condition that it is currently in, Jeff is reportedly working through it. The fact that Hardy is scheduled to wrestle CM Punk in a TLC (tables, ladders and chairs) match at the coming pay-per-view does cast doubt on the information provided, however if there is truth behind the matter then is can be probably expected that Hardy will drop the title to Punk. Of course, this is not certain since not so long ago internet wrestling news sites were reporting that creative were given the green light to start planning for Jeff after Summerslam.

Jeff Hardy Outside of Wrestling

It has been reported that Jeff has an interest in producing a reality TV show for MTV, which comes as part of the reason for his expected departure from the company. Hardy has reportedly been offered support by the WWE in this endeavor, but those close to Hardy have been said to have reported that this is unwanted. It has also been stated by some sites that if Hardy does leave that he does see himself back with the company at some time in the future.
