Mr. Kennedy Set for Return

After a 6 Month Absence Ken Kennedy Looks Ready for WWE Return

Feb 14, 2009 Daniel Crudge

He may have been gone for 6 months, but not many people are likely to have forgotten Smackdown's charismatic character, Mr. Kennedy, as he is set to return to the ring.

The ex-US Champion injured his shoulder in a match with Shelton Benjamin during a houseshow performance back in August of 2008. Mr. Kennedy doesn’t seem to have had much luck with injury, with his shoulder giving out on him twice before, once even costing him his ‘Money In The Bank’ championship contract, which would have undoubtedly lead to a championship title run. This opportunity he subsequently passed to Edge.

Kennedy Outside the Ring

But the superstar hasn’t been resting on his laurels since being rendered inactive in the ring. He has taken up the duty of promoting the industry outside the ring; appearing at fan-fests, as well as promoting the WWE-produced film he took the starring role in Behind Enemy Lines: Columbia, sequel to the original 2001 film starring Owen Wilson.

Kennedy's Bad Blood With MVP

While not being able to perform in the ring, Kennedy has made appearances Smackdown recently, the brand he is currently signed to. He engaged in verbal exchanges and promos with MVP while he still in the throes of his losing streak. The cocky and brash Kennedy mocking his inability to ‘get it done in the ring’ and pick up the win he needed in order to keep his incentive bonus. Kennedy and MVP are no strangers to each other. They formed an uneasy alliance during the early tenure of their employment with the company, competing against The Undertaker and Kane during the respective feuds, with their egos usually getting in the way.

It was teased that the two might become embroiled in a feud upon his return, and as energetic as the feud would have undoubtedly been, it would seem that is not to be. MVP turned face recently and is apparently starting up a program with the man that injured Kennedy back in August. It is almost certain, owing to the crowd reaction Kennedy receives whenever showing his face on WWE programming, that he will be returning as a fully-fledged face.

Big Show/Kennedy Feud

According to advertised upcoming houseshow events, Kennedy is set to face The Big Show upon his return. It will be interesting to see how this feud, if it is to be a feud, plays out. Kennedy has already proven he can perform with the larger athletes in the business, having already conducted rivalries with superstars of the likes of The Undertaker and Umaga previously. No doubt it will only be a matter of time before Kennedy is on the hunt for gold once again.

Mr. Kennedy is scheduled to appear on Smackdown houseshows in the US from the end of the month, and can be seen on WWE programming, Friday Night Smackdown.

Friday Night Smackdown is aired in the UK on Fridays, Sky Sports Three at 10pm.
