Rey Mysterio has stated in a recent interview with a Spanish language newspaper that his suspension was a mistake.

Translations of Rey Mysterio's recent interview with the Spanish language newspaper, The Record have surfaced recently on wrestling news websites. In the interview Rey stated that his failing of the WWE's Wellness Policy random drug testing was a mistake, and was handled badly by the WWE.

Circumstances for Drug Traces and Suspension

According to Rey's interview, the drug traces that were found in his body were completely legal, prescribed without fault by his doctor in order to help with several nagging injuries. If a superstar can prove that they have a legitimate prescription for a substance then the superstar is not at fault. However, according to the doctor in charge of the testing, Rey's physician failed to clarify one of the discovered substances. Rey remains adamant that he is not at fault.

According to the Wellness Policy, it is stated that "It shall be the responsibility of WWE Talent to provide, if not already provided, to the Medical Director, within seventy two (72) hours of notification of a positive test, suitable proof that the substance in question has been taken pursuant to a valid prescription for a legitimate medical purpose.' However, when Mysterio was called upon to declare the substances found his blood, he states that he was on out of the country, promoting the WWE for their the upcoming Summerslam pay per view. Upon return he was informed of his 30 day suspension. Rey also states that his doctor said that he would 'take care of it', which he says has not happened.Despite this, Rey is hopeful that he can have his suspension overturned when he speaks to management face to face at the upcoming Smackdown tapings.

Rey in Trouble for Giving Interview

Rey's obvious anguish over what he sees as his unfair suspension is clear, however, it would seem that Rey has broken a second WWE policy by giving his interview to The Record. It is WWE policy that susperstars clear any interviews given with management before giving them, which Rey did not do. It is widely believed that the way that WCW's stars were free to comment to whoever, however they pleased contributed to the burying of that company, and WWE wishes to avoid the same. Ultimately, even if Rey's suspension is overturned, it is quite likely that he will still be punished on TV. According to prowrestlingscoops.com, there are several ideas floating around as to what is to happen to the Intercontinental Championship, which Rey currently holds. It was widely believed that Dolph Ziggler would pick up the strap, but since that has now come to be expected, it has been reported that Vince is tossing up new plans, and so we are told to expect a surprise come this Friday. The general belief is that even if Rey escapes punishment for the substances, he'll still suffer for the interview.
