Senator Linda McMahon?

The Vince McMahon Plan for World Domination Continues

Can WWE's CEO follow in the footsteps of Jesse "The Body" Ventura by usurping Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd's seat?

It's not really about family entertainment. Linda McMahon, the now former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, today announced her candidacy for the Connecticut senate. When asked about WWE's often controversial product, she pointed to its current family friendly image, distancing herself (and the company) from the edgy past of the Attitude Era. Only a few months after the beginning of PG-rated WWE TV, this distance is rather convenient. After all, what aspiring politician wants a Katie Vick-sized monkey on her back?

Just as recently elected Minnesota senator, Al Franken, distanced himself to a degree from his edgy, comedic past (as a writer for Saturday Night Live and author of several popular, though sometimes offensive, books) to pursue a "serious" career in politics, Linda McMahon cannot be associated with the WWE of yesteryear. It's all well and good for her opponents to be able to make jokes about her wrestling background. Speaking to the Associated Press, Republican Senate candidate Rob Simmons joked, "When I got into the race I knew it would be a fight, but I didn't know I'd need to be prepared for smackdowns." He very well could have said, "When I got into the race, I didn't know I'd need to be prepared for the woman whose husband choked out their daughter with a lead pipe on television." That wouldn't be good publicity, now would it?

Vince McMahon is an Evil Genius

He's not really evil. (Or is he?) Still, Vinnie Mac has made it clear that his interests lie far beyond being the biggest dog in the wrestling yard. Instead, he wants to be an entertainment powerhouse, and, perhaps more importantly, a respected billionaire. Just look at Vince's constant associations with Donald Trump. He even allowed The Donald to shave his head in front of a pay-per-view audience just to prove they were buddies. He wanted to be part of the Billionaire's Club, to borrow a term from a WCW storyline.

It's no secret that politicians have created trouble for Vince in the past. From state athletic commissions attempting to regulate his beloved sports entertainment, to his own steroid trial, to the investigation that led to the WWE Wellness Policy, men with white collars and skinny microphones have been trying to get Mr. McMahon's goat for years. He's mad as hell, and he's not gonna take it anymore.

Linda is Vince's Sugar Daddy

Linda McMahon is a less disgraced and more respectable character than her husband. There's no way he could be involved in politics, himself. His wife's involvement would be a way to circumvent the naysayers. It would also be a way to have McMahon Family influence on the nation's affairs. We do know that Vince McMahon has a conservative bent about him, and it comes as little surprise that Linda is attempting to run under the Republican ticket. It's a great anniversary present for Vince (whichever anniversary it is for those two lovebirds) or, perhaps, a late birthday present (his was just a few weeks ago). Whatever the case, the key to more power for the McMahon dynasty clearly lies in the political spectrum. Linda and Vince may not be Camelot, but they're surely a power couple to be reckoned with.
