The Undertaker vs. Chris JerichoWhen Will the Phenom Feud With Y2J?
While Undertaker and Chris Jericho have both been in WWE for many years, they have rarely crossed paths in the ring. Will they ever feud, or even have a one-on-one match?
Taker and Jericho have wrestled a handful of tag matches with and against each other since Jericho’s debut in WWE in 1999. Undertaker has been with WWE since 1990. Although Jericho retired from wrestling for two years (2005-2007), these wrestlers have had roughly 8 years in which to feud, or even have a match, but this hasn’t occurred. Considering one of Jericho’s first actions in the World Wrestling Federation included insulting Undertaker, this is surprising. Jericho Tweets About TakerIn a recent Twitter post, Chris Jericho wrote that he had just had the privilege of wrestling against Undertaker for the first time. What he referred to, however, was a six-man tag match pitting Undertaker, The Great Khali and Matt Hardy against Jericho, CM Punk and Big Show in Puerto Rico on September 5th. This is not the first time they’ve encountered each other in tag matches, so Jericho’s gracious comment is confusing. Past Moments Between Jericho and the UndertakerFrom 2000-2 Undertaker and Jericho wrestled with and against each other, but always with other wrestlers involved in the match. At a November 2000 Smackdown show, Jericho and Undertaker were involved in a Fatal 4-Way match that included Chris Benoit and Kane, that had the two duking it out against each other at times, with Taker pinning Jericho and winning the match. In 2002, Taker and John Cena defeated Jericho and Kurt Angle. Soon after the Fatal 4-Way in 2000 they teamed against Kurt Angle and Kane. They later participated in a ten-man tag match at Survivor Series 2001, as they represented the World Wrestling Federation against the WCW/ECW Alliance. In October 2001, Taker, Jericho and Kane teamed against Booker T, Test and Rob Van Dam. They also faced RVD and The Rock that year. And in July 2002, Y2J and Taker defeated Steve Austin and The Rock. Why Have They Not Wrestled Each Other One on One?Undertaker doesn’t seem to have made public comments about why he hasn’t wrestled Jericho, but Jericho has made in-character comments on the subject. Chris declared that he was better than Undertaker and he would prove it one day, citing that he had not yet had the chance to do so because Taker did not want to face him. In reality, Jericho has said many respectful things about Undertaker and the Tweet mentioned above indicates that. Their lack of feuding more than likely has to do with many things, including plans for feuds with other wrestlers, Undertaker’s part-time schedule and injury recoveries, and the two men wrestling for different brands. But now that both wrestlers are on Smackdown, they now finally have the potential to feud. The question is whether those in charge will decree it. The Possibility of Their FeudingRumors of Undertaker’s retirement are constantly shot down, but he will probably not wrestle for a great deal longer, given his age and steady stream of injuries. If a match or feud were to happen between them, it would ideally happen soon. Jericho and Taker are very talented and dedicated performers, so a match between the two could possibly rival the Shawn Michaels/Undertaker match at Wrestlemania XXV, if they’re given the chance.
