Will Ric Flair to Return to the Ring?Does The Nature Boy Plan to Come Out of Retirement?
With Ric Flair's confrontations with Randy Orton becoming ever more heated on this week's episode of Raw, could this mean the Nature Boy might be returning to the ring?
Judgement Day saw the return to WWE programming of the legendary Ric Flair, as he made the save for his friend and protégé Batista during his WWE Title match with Randy Orton. Orton, fearing the loss of his title did everything he could to get himself intentionally disqualified, which although meaning a loss, would still result in him retaining his title. With trying to get counted out and numerous other underhanded tactics failing to achieve his aim, The Legend Killer slapped the referee in the face, leading to the DQ decision. Flair and Batista Team AgainAfter the bell had rung, Legacy made their way to the ring to start a vicious assault on Batista, looking to put his threat to the title to an end once and for all. It seemed that this was to be, until a familiar ‘woo’ rang out over the speakers as Ric Flair made a surprise return to save the day for Batista. To two were able to see off Legacy without too much trouble, culminating in Flair holding Batista’s arm up in victory as the crowd cheered. But this wasn’t the last of Flair. This week on Raw, ‘Naitch’ made his way to the ring during a promo by the current WWE Champion. Animosity still seems to remain between the two from their days in the group Evolution together, which Batista and Triple H were also part of. If this was enough to rile the champion, then Falir’s announcement that Orton is to face Batista in a rematch at the 2009 Extreme Rules pay-per-view, which is to air on the 7th June, in a steel cage match was. Orton asked Flair to deliver a message to Batista for him, before sucker punching him and stomping him on the mat. Batista and John Cena were able to make the save as Legacy made their way to the ring to pick the bones with their leader. However, Flair does not seem satisfied with just being saved. Later on in the night he made the save for Batista once again, interfering in a handicap match between all three members of Legacy as they faced off against Batista and John Cena. Not only that, but he vowed to call out Orton the next week on Raw for a fight. Flair to Feud with Orton? With the heat rising between the Orton and Flair, it would seem likely that this build up would lead to some kind of match in the near future. Of course, The Nature Boy is currently supposed to be retired, a stipulation of his loss to Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XXIV last year. The loss meaning that Ric Flair never performed in a ring again. Flair's RetirementHowever, keyfabe aside, according to sources at prowrestlingscoops, it does seem likely that Flair will return to start a short-term program with the company. With Shawn Michaels taking time off and the company wanting to keep Triple H off TV for a while longer, the WWE seem to be low on top level baby faces on Raw, not to mention Smackdown. It could mean that Flair will be used to bolster the talent roster in their absence. Ric Flair has been reported to have said that he’d love to return to the ring as long as Shawn Michaels didn’t have a problem with it. Many internet backstage sources claim that it should not be long before the sixteen-time World Champion returns to wrestle in the squared circle.
