WWE Backlash 2009 Non-Title Match Previews

Preview & Live Results for all the Non-Title Bouts at Backlash

On the 26th of April at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI the Superstars of the WWE will fight for more than just title gold at Backlash.

Feuds that weren't settled at WrestleMania have rolled on and look set to light up the Backlash card while new rivalries are just getting started. There are currently three non-title matches, three Championship matches (for title match previews Click Here) and a very special Khali Kiss Cam segment scheduled for Backlash.

Santina on The Kiss Cam

There isn't much point spending time on this. Although the WWE are keen to push this as a big part of the event, no one will be buying Backlash to see it. Unless Santino and Santina both appear at the same time (which is impossible) it's doubtful that anyone will even care about this. Hopefully it will take place in the middle of the show and serve as a good opportunity for a toilet break.

Chris Jericho Vs. Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat

Steamboat stood out in the Legends Vs. Jericho match at WrestleMania and after another good showing on the following night's Raw the fans were clamouring to see more of him. The creative team realised this and now he is set to meet Jericho again without the aid of Snuka and Piper, in a match that has barely been hyped in comparison to almost everything else on the card (C.M Punk Vs. Kane excluded.)

Steamboat looked very good despite not being an active competitor for over 12 years and should he score the win over Jericho it could produce the biggest cheer of the night.

Prediction: Steamboat to grab a win and finally avenge the Legends, sending Jericho packing to Smackdown with his tail between his legs.

C.M Punk Vs. Kane

This is certainly the prime candidate for 'who cares' match of the night.

There has been next to no promotion and the rivalry is based upon the flimsy premise that Kane is annoyed at Punk for knocking him off the ladder at the climax of the Money in the Bank match. When Kane got drafted to Smackdown many thought he might be in for a decent push or at least a rivalry where he wasn't laying down for smaller guys, but if this is anything to go by it looks like The Big Red Machine is in for exactly the same treatment on the blue brand.

On the plus side at least it isn't Rey Mysterio that he will be losing to...again.

Prediction: Unless something out of the ordinary happens C.M Punk should pick up the win in this one, perhaps before cashing in Money in the Bank later in the show.

Jeff Hardy Vs. Matt Hardy in an I Quit Match

This is definitely the biggest of the non-title matches and there is a lot at stake when the two Hardy Brothers meet for what should be the last time.

Matt is now 3-0 up and seems to have his brother's number when it comes to in-ring competition, meaning Jeff really has to win this one to save any sort of face. Jeff has realised this and in one of the most bizarre promo's in recent times he explained that although he is yet to taste an in ring victory over his estranged brother, Matt will quit at Backlash when it means the most.

I quit matches are always fun to watch and given the lengths these two went to at WrestleMania and then in the Stretcher Match on Raw this one could steal the show should they choose to top them.

Prediction: Jeff has to win both for the feud to come to an end and for him to save face.
