WWE Breaking Point 09 Raw and ECW PreviewPredictions and Live Results 13/09/09 Montreal Quebec Canada
At Breaking Point John Cena and Randy Orton battle for the WWE Championship in an I Quit match while every other main event match must end in a submission.
On the 13th September the WWE tries out the first of two 'themed' pay per view events with Breaking Point, where every main event match will have submission based rules. ECW as usual has just the one bout while there are only two Raw-exclusive bouts on the card going into the event, although both are highly anticipated. Christian (c) Vs.William Regal in a Submission Match for the ECW ChampionshipNot only are Regal and Christian wasted on ECW, they seem to completely go against the idea of the brand and it's 'new talent initiative'. Regal got completely embarrassed at SummerSlam despite being flanked by the two biggest guys on the ECW brand, so he will no doubt be out for revenge come Breaking Point. The problem with this rivalry is that after such a crushing defeat it doesn't 'feel' like the British born gentleman is ever going to topple Christian and take the belt from him, even with the assistance of Jackson and Kozlov. Tommy Dreamer has also been aimlessly loitering around this rivalry like the proverbial 'lost puppy', helping out his friend Christian and supposedly defending the honour of ECW. Prediction: Regal to take a few chances but Dreamer to save the day and help Christian retain. DX Vs. Legacy in a Tag Team Submissions Count Anywhere MatchDX picked up the first official victory in this feud at SummerSlam but now Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase of Legacy get the chance to gain some revenge in a very rare 'Submissions Count Anywhere' match at Breaking Point. Although this is the classic 'seasoned veterans Vs. cocky youngsters' rivalry, in their last match Rhodes and DiBiase surprised a lot of people by just how competitive it ended up being. It now seems Legacy might be more of a match for Triple H and Shawn Michaels than first thought and with free reign to go anywhere inside (and outside) the arena this has the potential to steal the show and be the match of the night. Prediction: Legacy to steal a victory. Randy Orton (c) Vs. John Cena in an I Quit Match for the WWE ChampionshipJust when the fans thought they'd seen it all between Randy Orton and John Cena, they get thrown into an 'I Quit' match. I Quit bouts don't get used often although they are usually a very entertaining variant on the submission match, especially when they involve two people with decent microphone skills. Orton and Cena have proven they have the ability to put on a good match together and both are more than capable of using the microphone to chew each other out as they brawl, but the problem here will be whether they can deliver something fresh having met so many times in the past. Depending on the outcome of the DX/Legacy match earlier in the show, Orton may have some help although it's hard to imagine either man uttering the words 'I Quit' no matter what they do to each other. Prediction: Hopefully Orton will retain the title and move on to a new rivalry. Breaking News on Breaking Point 2009The scheduled Intercontinental Championship match between Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison has been pulled in favour of a United States Championship match between Kofi Kingston and The Miz. Fans are speculating that the reason for this is due to the lack of build up in the Intercontinental Title picture due to Rey Mysterio's enforced absence, although this seems a little bizarre as the rivalry between Kofi Kingston and The Miz has barely had any screen time either.
