WWE Breaking Point 09 Smackdown PreviewPredictions and Live Results for all Scheduled Matches on 13/09/09
It's all about the submissions as WWE Breaking Point comes to Montreal, Quebec, Canada on the 13th of September. The Undertaker and C.M Punk headline the Smackdown card.
The only way to win a main event match at WWE Breaking Point is to make your opponent quit, as all the major matches have submission-based rules. Smackdown has three exclusive matches scheduled going into the Pay Per View, as well as being represented by one half of the tag-team champions in Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho & The Big Show (c) Vs. M.V.P & Mark Henry for the Unified Tag Team TitlesJeri-Show's dominance of the tag division might seem detrimental at first, but having the titles on such a successful team is actually quite good for the tag division. For years now the tag titles have been background belts; used mainly to give smaller teams a push or inject a little extra excitement into a match. Now with the titles around the waists of such formidable opponents they finally mean something and have become worth winning. It seems unlikely that the relatively fresh team of Mark Henry and M.V.P will be the ones to pry the straps away from the dominant champs but they should be able to put on a decent match that keeps the fans interested. Prediction: A valiant effort from M.V.P/Henry but Jeri-Show to retain the titles. Kane Vs. The Great Khali in a Singapore Cane MatchAs if the first three matches between Kane and Khali didn't stink up their respective cards enough, they will no go at it again at Breaking Point, this time with Singapore Canes thrown in for good measure. It's upsetting that talented Superstars like Sheamus, The Hart Dynasty, Shelton Benjamin, Zack Ryder, Matt Hardy and even Mike Knox don't even get considered while Kane and Khali continually find a spot on the Pay Per Views. Regardless of the outcome the match will more than likely be awful and will probably be the point where fans take a toilet break. Prediction: Kane is 2-1 up at the minute so Khali to win and tie things up. John Morrison (c) Vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental ChampionshipNote: This match has now been removed in favour of a United States Championship Match between Kofi Kingston and The Miz. This was originally scheduled to be Rey Mysterio Vs. Dolph Ziggler, but as WWE's 'golden boy' Mysterio has become the latest victim of the WWE Wellness Policy he dropped the belt to John Morrison 8 days before Breaking Point and began his 30 day suspension. Many people had expected this to be Ziggler's 'night' but unless Morrison is to be a transitional champion that no longer looks like the case. The fact is that one way or another Mysterio's rule-break has cost one of his fellow Superstars; either Morrison drops the belt just 8 days after winning it in a Match of the Year candidate, or Ziggler's title run is halted before it has even begun. Irregardless of who wins the bout it is sure to be a fantastic match between two competitors who have huge futures ahead of them. Prediction: Morrison to retain the title and kick off a rivalry between the two. C.M Punk (c) Vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship With Jeff Hardy making an emotional departure from the WWE the week following SummerSlam and his brother Matt being nowhere near ring-ready enough to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship, the top of the Smackdown card would have been practically bare if it weren't for the return of The Undertaker. Despite there not being that much in the way of a rivalry between Taker and Punk, any match with the legendary Deadman involved is sure to be a crowd pleaser and the submission stipulation makes it all the more interesting as neither participant is that well known for tapping out. This is likely to be the first in a series of matches between the two and hopefully they will leave the fans wanting more next month when they will undoubtedly meet in a Hell in a Cell at the PPV of the same name. Prediction: C.M Punk to somehow retain the title, perhaps by Taker passing out.
