Extreme Rules makes it's début in the New Orleans Arena on the 7th June. Every match will have a stipulation and things are guaranteed to get out of hand!

With ECW being a shadow of it's former self, the WWE creative team have made the decision to re-brand the 'ECW One Night Stand' Pay Per View in order to give it more of a Hardcore feel.

Extreme Rules usually implies an anything goes style match where use of foreign objects and obscure outside-the-ring offence is actively encouraged in order to incapacitate your opponent. However some of the bouts at the Pay Per View bearing the same name don't seem to come close to that level of brutality, with the two Raw bouts looking especially tame in comparison.

Christian (c) Vs. Jack Swagger Vs. Tommy Dreamer for the ECW Championship in a Hardcore Match

Dreamer vowed to hang up his boots if he didn't win the ECW Championship before his contract expired. Although he will technically be out of a contract the day before Extreme Rules he was given the chance to sign a one day extention because of the interference from Swagger in his previous title match.

This could well be Dreamer's last match (at least until he gets bored and makes a comeback) so it only makes sense that it should be in an environment he has made famous over the years; Hardcore Rules.

Meanwhile Swagger looks to regain the title he lost at Backlash and has failed to regain in the two re-matches he has had since.

If this is indeed going to be Dreamers final match then it has the potential to be a show stealer.

Prediction: Either Dreamer will edge it and retire shortly afterwards or Swagger will get the win over Dreamer leaving Christian annoyed to say the least.

Big Show Vs. John Cena in a Submission Match

Even John Cena fans must be getting tired of this feud now.

Big Show Vs. Cena has never been a very interesting concept but after numerous run ins both in and out of the ring there really isn't much more they can do. Throw in the fact that ANY stipulation would have been more exciting than Submission (especially when neither men are particularly skilled technical wrestlers) and you have potentially the dullest match of the year so far.

The whole premise behind this match is that Cena wasn't able to lock in the STF at Judgement Day and so this type of match should benefit Show. The problem is a Submission match isn't very 'Extreme' and chances are Cena will work out a way to lock in one move or another and win against the odds.

Prediction: Cena to gain an unlikely victory and (hopefully) put this awful feud to bed.

Vickie Guererro Vs. Santina Marella in a Hog Pen Match

The last time the WWE fans saw a Hog Pen Match was way back in 1995 when Henry O. Godwin took on the Connecticut Blue Blood Hunter Hearst Helmsley at In Your House 5.

The concept of the match (at least back then) is simple; both competitors start in the ring and somewhere up the ramp there is a pen full of pigs and the stuff pigs love to roll in. The winner of the match is the first person to throw their opponent into the pen.

Whether this concept will have changed come Extreme Rules is anyone's guess but it should be a nice bit of comic relief amongst the more serious matches on the card.

Prediction: Chavo Guererro will be in Vickie's corner and that could make all the difference but Santina should regain the Miss WrestleMania title one way or another.

Randy Orton Vs. Batista for the WWE Championship in a Steel Cage Match

Nothing says 'Extreme Rules' quite like a Steel Cage match... if the year was 1985.

As good as they are, Steel Cage matches are old hat these days and very rarely get an outing at Pay Per View events, never mind one where the basis is that every match on the card is 'Extreme'.

That being said the Cage match does fit in well with how things have been going between Orton and Batista recently. Orton can't get disqualified inside a steel cage and technically no one can get involved in this type of match.

However history has shown that outside interference can still play a big part in cage matches and with the return of Triple H seemingly imminent it's possible that there will be help for both parties on the outside of the steel.

Prediction: Orton to retain cheaply before Triple H returns and gets a modacome of revenge to set up another match.
