WWE Extreme Rules 09 Smackdown PredictionsPreview of all the Smackdown Matches Scheduled for June 7th
Two titles and a lot of pride will be on the line when WWE Extreme Rules hits the New Orleans Arena in Louisiana on the 7th June.
In 2005 One Night Stand thrilled fansby giving them a taste of the good old ECW. A year later One Night Stand had become a passable but watered down version of its former self and by 2007 it was a standard WWE Pay Per View where all the matches had some stipulation or another. This year the Pay Per View formerly known as ECW One Night Stand has been re branded 'Extreme Rules', keeping the theme of gimmick matches but rightfully dropping all connotation of it being an ECW style event. C.M Punk Vs. Umaga in a Samoan Strap MatchPunk and Umaga met for the first time at Judgement Day and the Samoan Bulldozer came out on top, defeating Mr. Money in the Bank comfortably in his home town. Being the laid back guy that he is, Punk seemed prepared to let things lie. But when Umaga once again got involved in his business the two seemed destined for a match at Extreme Rules and after delivering yet another beating, Umaga informed Punk that it would be a Samoan Strap Match. Much the same as a normal Strap Match the Superstars involved must incapacitate their opponent before dragging them around the ring and touching all 4 corners without interruption. Of course the strap can also be used as a weapon and makes sure both men are never too far away from each other. Prediction: C.M Punk to win against the odds and level things up in this rivalry. Rey Mysterio (c) Vs. Chris Jericho in a No Holds Barred Match for the Intercontinental ChampionshipMysterio and Jericho had one of the stand out matches at Judgement Day and the added stipulation of No Holds Barred should help them better it at Extreme Rules. Jericho is still obsessed with removing Rey's mask, insisting the reason he wears it is not one of honour but rather one of cowardice and claiming the Intercontinental Champion must have something to hide. Mysterio has stated that he would much rather be facing someone he feels deserves a shot at the Intercontinental Championship, but also that he relishes the opportunity to shut up the whining egomaniac once and for all. Prediction: Jericho to win the I.C title but fail to unmask Rey, continuing this rivalry without making it too one sided. Edge (c) Vs. Jeff Hardy in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight ChampionshipEdge and Hardy go way back and many fans would agree that although Shawn Michaels is often credited with coming up with the Ladder match, these two Superstars revolutionised the match and made it the spectacle it is today. Although Jeff chose this match stipulation Edge was quick to (correctly) point out that although Jeff is the one that often sticks in the fans minds, delivering innovative offence and 'oh my god' moments, Edge is usually the one to come out on top when all is said and done. No one has won more ladder matches than the Rated R Superstar and given his form against the Charismatic Enigma the smart money would have to be on him retaining the title. However, Jeff always has the ability to shock and provided his estranged brother Matt doesn't show up he has every chance of winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Prediction: Provided there is no interference Jeff should win although this one is almost too close to call. For Previews and Predictions for all the Raw and ECW matches Click Here.
