WWE Hall Of Fame Is Flawed

The WWE Has Made It Difficult To Take Their Tribute Seriously

The WWE had a good idea in 2004 when they decided to hold a Hall of Fame ceremony the night before Wrestlemania, but there are several things wrong with the Hall of Fame.

Every year, the night before Wrestlemania, the WWE honors past wrestling greats by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. It is nice to see legends of the past get honored but there are many inductees that did not deserve it and many who should be in have not been inducted.

WWE Hall of Fame Should Feature WWE Talent Only

The WWE has inducted too many performers who had most or all of their success outside the WWE. Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race for example had most of their success in the NWA and marginal success in the WWE. Gordon Solie, Nick Bockwinkel, and Verne Gagne were never even in the WWE. Gagne was in competition with the WWE for years and rumor has it that he offered the Iron Sheik money to break Hulk Hogan's leg and jump to the AWA. It is the WWE Hall of Fame, not the Wreslting Hall of Fame, and it should be exclusively for WWE performers.

WWE Has Inducted Too Many Mid-Carders

A Hall of Fame should be reserved for the best of the best. Only the cream of the crop should get in. It should be reserved for main event performers. Yet the WWE has inducted many performers who were mid-carders at best. Greg Valentine, Junkyard Dog, Tito Santana, and Nikolai Volkoff were never top-of-the-card guys in the WWE. "Cowboy" Bob Orton is best remembered for wearing a cast forever and being Roddy Piper's lackey. This year they will be inducting Koko B. Ware. Koko was a great athlete, but with all due respect, he was a mid-carder at best and certainly not Hall of Fame worthy.

WWE Hall of Fame has Too Many Glaring Omissions

How can the WWE include guys who never made it past the intercontinental title yet exclude several world champions? How can you have a WWE Hall of Fame without Bruno Sammartino? Where is Bob Backlund? What about "Macho Man" Randy Savage? Ultimate Warrior and Kevin Nash are two more world champions who have been omitted. Scott Hall, Ted Dibiase, Jake Roberts and Big Bossman were never world champions but they are certainly more deserving than many who have gotten in ahead of them.

Inducting Celebrities is a Joke

Inducting celebrities in the WWE Hall of Fame is ridiculous. WIliam "The Refrigerator" Perry should not be in the Hall of Fame because of a one time appearance in a battle royal at Wrestlemania II. Pete Rose should not be in just for taking a couple tombstones from Kane. His induction was probably done as a slap in the face to major league baseball but it cheapens the WWE Hall of Fame.

It is nice to see true WWE greats like Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, and Bret Hart get their just recognition but unless the WWE raises it's standards for the Hall of Fame, it just doesn't mean that much. They must exclude non-WWE guys, mid-carders, and celebrities and they must include all the greats like Sammartino, Backlund, and Savage.

WWE IS wrestling, so inducting anyone they own the rights to should happen.

I think mid-carders should be allowed (like the ones you listed first), but not "Cowboy" Bob Orton or Koko B. Ware.

The omissions will be taken care of in time.

Celebs are nice to see in the HOF.

You're right, Owen Hart should be in as well. But considering that his family filed a wrongful death suit against WWE, I don't think he will get in. Even if they wanted to put him in, I don't think the family would show up on his behalf.

First things first. The WWE Hall has every right to induct non-wrestling talent in the same way that other halls induct announcers, etc. Also, we must take something into account. Wrestling is not real in a sports sense. The Hall of fame is for great performers, not just people who won titles. Nowadays, we see many, many title changes. In the old days, we did not. Hulk Hogan was only champion because he had competition that could put on a show. Without Roddy Piper, Bob Orton, Paul Orndorf, etc., there would not be a Hulk Hogan. Based on the article, we would only have two or three people from the entire decade of the 80s inducted. To say that Valentine, Santana or Orton shouldn't be there is just flat wrong. I will however agree that Koko is a big stretch.

I will also agree that there are gaping holes. Namely, Sammartino, Orndorf, Savage, & Warrior.

I also love that they are inducting non-wwf/e talent. It is well deserved!
