WWE Judgement Day 09 Smackdown PredictionsPreview of Smackdown Matches Scheduled for May 17th and Live Results
On the 17th May title belts will be on the line and scores will be settled when Judgement Day hits the Allstate Arena in Rosemont Illinois.
Scores from WrestleMania XXV seem to be all but settled on the WWE's Blue brand but Judgement Day will be the stage for a whole new selection of rivalries, including two championship bouts. C.M Punk Vs. UmagaWith less than a month between Backlash and Judgement Day none of the new feuds on Smackdown have had a great deal of time to build up pace, Edge and Jeff Hardy's bout standing out because they have a lot of history in the WWE which has been played upon heavily. Since returning to Smackdown Umaga has made it his business to destroy C.M Punk on a weekly basis, initially jumping the Money in the Bank winner as he was about to cash it in and potentially claim the World Heavyweight Championship from Edge. There isn't a whole lot else to say about this match, but it is likely to be the first in a few grudge matches between the two. Prediction: If they can get past the clear mis-match in styles this could be a very enjoyable match. Expect Punk to go for the GTS despite the Samoan Bulldozer's size, with the result of the match hinging on whether he hits it. Rey Mysterio (c) Vs. Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental ChampionshipAs with the Punk Vs. Umaga match this hasn't had much time to develop since Backlash and the roster draft. That being said, Jericho and Mysterio have a storied past which stretches back to their WCW days, making a match between them a tried and tested formula with the fans. Jericho has reportedly requested a long rivalry with Mysterio, with this being the first in a series of matches between the two. There is also rumour that an 'unmasking' angle will be used, as there was a fantastic reaction from the crowd when Jericho accidentally unmasked Rey on a recent European tour. It is a refreshing change to see Mysterio competing in a match where he isn't necessarily a complete underdog and he and Jericho are more than capable of putting on a very memorable match. Prediction: Rey to defend the title and send Jericho into a temper tantrum. Edge (c) Vs. Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight ChampionshipWhether it's Tag Team, Ladders, TLC, No Holds Barred, Last Man Standing or anything in between; Edge and Hardy know how to put on an exciting match. There is no doubt that at Judgement Day this will be no different but the last time they met in a one on one Pay Per View match Matt Hardy memorably cost his brother the WWE Championship. Due to the impact it had, kicking-starting a feud all the fans wanted to see, there is a very strong possibility that this match will be seen as an anti-climax if the ending doesn't live up to or surpass the standard set at the Royal Rumble. Prediction: Edge hasn't had the title too long and although Jeff has pointed out his tendency to lose the belt the Pay Per View after winning it, he should retain here. Shelton Benjamin Vs. John MorrisonThis match was added at the last minute on WWE.Com. Shelton and Morrison have been getting involved in each others business ever since The Friday Night Delight was drafted from ECW and at Judgement Day they get the chance to fight it out one on one. The Worlds Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) also seem to have reunited in the weeks leading up to this match and Haas' involvement could be the deciding factor in what looks to be a very even contest. Prediction: Shelton Benjamin to win by underhanded tactics. For more information on WWE Judgement Day including Live Results Click Here or For Raw/ECW Match Predictions Click Here
