WWE SummerSlam 09 Smackdown PreviewPredictions & Live Results for all Scheduled Matches on 23rd August
C.M Punk and Jeff Hardy battle for the World Heavyweight Championship in a TLC Match and both the IC and Tag Team Titles will be on the line at the Staples Centre in L.A
SummerSlam is the WWE's biggest party of the summer, although looking at the matches Smackdown have to offer it seems that some won't give the fans much at all to party about. The Great Khali Vs. KaneThis has to be by far the worst match on the card. Kane has been greatly underused for practically his whole WWE career, recently jobbing to the likes of Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne. Now the Big Red Machine has been thrown into a downright awful rivalry with one of the worst wrestlers on the Smackdown roster; The Great Khali. Khali works well as a novelty character and to an extent as an unstoppable heel, but this current feud puts him somewhere between the two; the comedy angle is gone and the brutal attacks at the hands of Kane made him look weak. Runjin Singh has also been thrown into the mix to add some emphasis to the storyline, but the facts are this: it's a lukewarm feud that is leading to an inevitably poor match. Prediction: An awful match. There's a slim possibility Singh will turn and help Kane win. Chris Jericho & The Big Show (c) Vs. Cryme TymeJericho & Big Show seem to have spent about as much time feuding with John Cena, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston and Shaquille O'Neal as they have with Cryme Tyme, leaving this match severely lacking in heat. JTG holds an upset victory over Chris Jericho but other than that there's no evidence to suggest Cryme Tyme will take the titles from the dominant combination that currently hold them. Prediction: Jericho & Big Show to win hands down. Rey Mysterio (c) Vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental ChampionshipRumour has it that Ziggler was scheduled to pick up the win and the belt from Mysterio at Night of Champions, but just hours before the show someone in charge decided he wasn't quite ready for that responsibility. Whether he has done enough to prove he can carry the title remains to be seen, but since joining the Smackdown roster the New-Age Mr. Perfect seems to have gone from strength to strength and it shows just how well he is going over behind the scenes when he continually gets the better of WWE's 'Golden Boy' Rey Mysterio. Ziggler and Rey put on a great match at Night of Champions and there's nothing stopping this one being even better. Prediction: Ziggler to pick up the title, perhaps with the help of love interest Maria. Jeff Hardy (c) Vs. C.M Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship in a TLC MatchThis is exactly what the Punk/Hardy feud has been crying out for. While the singles matches between them have been highly entertaining, both men have a proven track record in gimmick matches, especially ones featuring ladders. A few months ago Hardy would have seemed like a shoe in for victory in this style of match, but since Punk began his heel turn a new and more vicious side to the 2-time Mr. Money in the Bank has surfaced and put him on level terms with the Extreme Enigma. The wild card in this match has to be the recent involvement of Matt Hardy. Matt made his brother's life a living nightmare for the first half of 2009, attacking and even costing him the World Heavyweight Championship numerous times. However, Matt seems to have repented and just a week before SummerSlam saved his brother from a severe beating at the hands of C.M Punk. Rumour is also rife that Jeff Hardy will be leaving the company as his contract expires on Sunday and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, so there is a real possibility he will drop the belt and be taken out of action in a big way. Prediction: Punk to win the title due to a swerve run in by Matt. Matt and Punk then reveal they have been working together and destroy Jeff with Tables, Ladders and Chairs...oh my!
