WWE Survivor Series 08 Main Events Preview

A preview of the Title Matches and Casket Match and Live Results

Find out the background information and predictions on both brands Title matches as well as the much anticipated Casket Match between The Big Show and The Undertaker.

At Survivor Series 1992 The Undertaker rolled a lifeless Kamala into an open Casket to win the first ever match of its type. Sixteen years later he looks to do the same to The Big Show and 'put the final nail in the coffin' of this ongoing feud.

As well as this the World Heavyweight Title will be up for grabs, with John Cena returning to challenge Chris Jericho, and HHH will put his WWE Championship on the line against both Vladamir Kozlov and Jeff Hardy in a triple threat match.

Chris Jericho (c) Vs. John Cena for the World Heavyweight Title

Although John Cena has been out of action since Summerslam, which is over three months ago, the WWE production team have made sure he hasn't been far from the fans minds. Every edition of Raw and Smackdown has featured at least one Cena promo and although they were quite interesting to start with, they have worn incredibly thin.

Jericho has had some brilliant matches while all this has been going on, one of the best being when he regained the Heavyweight Championship from Batista in a cage match, just eight days after losing it in the main event at Cyber Sunday.

The problem with a 'Returning Superstar' angle is that, especially in this case, there is little actual build up due to the absence of one of the participants.

Jericho and Cena 's last run in was in 2005, when Jericho lost a 'You're Fired' match, and although it hasn't been mentioned on screen, WWE.Com have been quick to point it out in an attempt to add weight to the feud.

Prediction: It's in Cena's home town, he's had the majority of the hype before the match, and rumour has it WWE has promoted a Championship match between Cena, Batista and Orton for the 30th of November, so expect Cena to leave with the title.

With Jericho not featuring in the next title match it is likely he will lose via interference, setting him up in a new feud.

Triple H (c) Vs. Jeff Hardy Vs. Vladamir Kozlov for the WWE Championship

The WWE has made it quite clear what results they had hoped for at Cyber Sunday. The following night they had a match on Raw in which C.M Punk and Kofi Kingston beat Priceless to win the Tag Team titles, the option that was widely expected to win the vote at the Pay Per View but was shunned in favour of another Miz & Morrison Vs. Cryme Tyme bout.

Although this one has taken slightly longer to come about, it seems they have done exactly the same thing here.

Hardy has 'taken things to the X-Treme' recently, attacking anyone and everyone in his persuit of the WWE Championship. Once again he has earned the right to go for it, but this time standing in his way is not only HHH, but the Moscow Mauler; Vladimir Kozlov.

It may be that this destructive run is the start of a heel turn for Jeff, possibly leading to a feud with The Undertaker. The one advantage of this may be that the fans won't have to endure as many poorly delivered promos, as his shouty awkward style could suit a heel persona.

BREAKING NEWS: Jeff Hardy has apparently been rushed to hospital after being found unconscious at the bottom of a stairwell at a hotel in Boston. Whether this is for real or part of a storyline it is hard to say, but it looks like it may well be changed to a 1 on 1 match between HHH and Kozlov.

Prediction: If Hardy was going to win the title, it would have happened at Cyber Sunday. HHH needs to drop the title soon if he is to main event WrestleMania in April and as Kozlov's whole gimmick revolves totally around his undefeated status, he looks to be the most likely victor.

The Undertaker Vs. The Big Show in a Casket Match

While any feud involving The Undertaker is well received by the fans, this one hasn't been the most exciting. Casket matches have become pretty common in the WWE recently, and although they are usually interesting; either for the suspense filled bout or more likely the aftermath, a Buried Alive match would have been far better to bring a close to this feud.

Numerous sources have also stated that Edge is set to return at Survivor Series. While there has also been speculation that he would return to Raw rather than Smackdown and get involved in the Cena/Jericho bout, this doesn't seem the case, as he has been lobbying for the returning Christian to be placed with him on the Smackdown brand.

The real question is which side Edge would take, as when he left he was at loggerheads with both Taker and Vikki Guerrero, whom the Big Show is representing.

Prediction: The Undertaker to gain the victory and Edge to make an appearance at some point.

There will also be Three Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Matches; the preview and live results for these can be seen by Clicking Here.

Results

  • The Undertaker defeated The Big Show closing him inside a Casket.
  • Vikki Guerrero appeared towards the end of the WWE Championship match and explained that it would still be a Triple Threat, introducing Edge as the third participant. Jeff showed up and attacked Edge then hit HHH with a chair by mistake before drilling Kozlov too. Edge speared Jeff and pinned the prone HHH to become the new WWE Champion.
  • John Cena beat Chris Jericho by pinfall to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
