WWE Unforgiven 2008 PreviewChampionship Scramble Matches at the Upcoming Pay-Per-View
The 2008 installment of Unforgiven is set to be full of chaotic scramble matches that will do well to impress.
On Sunday September 7th the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio will play host to Unforgiven. As the big event draws ever nearer there are three matches on the card that stand out. A preview of the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble match can be found here, along with the rules for the three Championship Scramble matches. (Note: Rey Mysterio has taken the place of the injured John Cena, who was scheduled to appear in the match at the time of writing) WWE Championship Scramble MatchWith Edge out of action, four of the five wrestlers in the match would be what one would expect. However, there is a shock inclusion, as The Brian Kendrick will step into the ring with a shot at the big time. It has been evident for a long time that Kendrick is a very good in-ring performer. Therefore, it was a nice surprise to find out that he was going to be given the opportunity at a pay-per-view. As well as Kendrick, the other combatants are Jeff Hardy, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP), Shelton Benjamin and the WWE Champion, Triple H. Despite the likes of Kendrick, Porter and Benjamin finally obtaining a deserved title shot, it is hard to see any other outcome than a Triple H victory. Nevertheless, it would be far from a shock to see Kendrick become temporary WWE Champion. An act that tries to make fans believe that the “fairytale” could happen, only to have Triple H regain his crown with just a few seconds to spare. ECW Championship Scramble MatchECW’s Championship Scramble is slightly harder to pick a winner. However, it will be surprising if the sluggish Mark Henry remains the ECW Champion. By the same token it is unlikely that The Miz will leave Cleveland with the gold, but this is the WWE and strange things often happen. The other three wrestlers fighting for the gold are Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero and Finlay. To date, both Hardy and Guerrero have held the ECW title, so maybe it is time for a change. Finlay often stood on the outside looking in while he was a member of the SmackDown roster, despite the fact that he regularly put in some solid performances. Regardless, the WWE was clearly never going to give Finlay the belt on SmackDown. ECW however, is the place for the aging Finlay to shine as the WWE can surely entrust the Irishman to be the main man for the ECW brand. Championship Scramble DoubtsNo matter who comes out of the three Championship Scramble matches victorious, one is extremely apprehensive about the quality of these bouts. Regardless of who is competing in these showpiece matches the WWE will probably employ a tactic of trying to pack as many finishing moves as possible into the allotted 20 minutes. As a result, there will be little room for any kind of story telling in the matches. The whole thing is made even worse because there are three of these “novelty” matches, one of them would have been more than enough.
